The 2021 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby April 3 is one of the last points races for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, offering 100 points to the winner and a guaranteed spot in the May 1 run for the roses.
Three of the last nine Santa Anita Derby winners went on to win the Kentucky Derby four weeks later. Baffert has won the 1 1/8-mile event a record nine times, and this year he has entered likely morning-line favorite Medina Spirit. This year's Santa Anita Derby has drawn a field of 10 and none of the horses entered have previously started in a grade 1 race.
