Breeders Cup Juvenile Friday

The Horse Racing World Championship is here and we kick off the festivities with Future Star Friday at Del Mar. Its a loaded Friday card with several good up and comers on the Turf and Dirt. The biggest being the TVG Juvenile where we may see the next Kentucky Star.

Race 6 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint

Avery Jane enters this turf sprint undefeated in 4 starts for trainer Wesley Ward. Tyler G looks to get the mount on her again. Her last out in the Indian Summer proved to be her best race yet as she led start to finish, drew off, and was geared down to the pole.

Derrynane comes in 2/3 lifetime for Christophe Clement. Winner last out at Woodbine with jockey Joel Rosario. A daughter of Quality Road looks to be flying late but will have several traffic factors to navigate. Rosario seems to be one of the best at sitting off the pace, so he should have her set up nicely in this sprint.

Twilight Jet an International Shipper coming in for Michael O'Callaghan. Winner last out at Newmarket in a Stakes race Grade 3. International shippers seem to have a love or hate relationship with the American Turf courses. The horse has raced 10 times and has accounted for only 2 wins.

Run Curtis Run interesting one her for Mike Maker. Best race was last out in the Grade 3 Futurity at Belmont. 2nd last out in the Grade 3 Futurity beaten by Slipstream. Early Speed may help this horse in here and a few adjustments may hang on for a piece of the prize.

Race 7 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies

Echo Zulu a lot of peoples betting locks for the weekend will probably be this filly out of Gun Runner for Steve Asmussen. 3-3 lifetime 2 wins in Grade 1s. Won the Frizette at Belmont last out at a mile. Won the Spinaway 2 times back at Saratoga going 7 furlongs. Sharp workouts and is heavy favorite.

JuJu's Map a strong filly coming out of the Brad Cox barn. Possibly a contender to Echo Zulu based on speed figures. Has been running the mile distance in the last 2 races. Sharp workouts match Echo Zulu.

Race 8 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

Koala Princess a winner of 2 straight for trainer Arnaud Delacour. A Filly out of More Than Ready looks primed to run well in here. Won last out at Kentucky Downs flying late from 8th -1st under Jockey Joel Rosario. She has the highest speed rating among competitors.

Bubble Rock another filly out of More Than Ready 2/3 lifetime out of the Brad Cox barn. Won Grade 3 Matron last out at Belmont. Sharp workouts and speed figures comparable with the highest in the race. Has never ran in a route race so stretching out could be good for the horse.

Malavath International Shipper for Frnaics Gabbard comes out of 2 wins in a row at Chantilly (Fr). Last race was a Grade 2 win as she won by a neck. Could be interesting on price as ML shows 8-1 but the unknown of the shippers always floats their prices a bit higher. One to watch.

Haughty out of Empire Maker for Chad Brown is 1/2 lifetime. She could be 2/2 but was disqualified in the 1st start as she veered in. She does step up in class from Maidens but Chad knows the horse and feels it fits well in here.

Race 9 TVG Breeders Cup Juvenile

Jack Christopher a Munnings colt that is 2 for 2 lifetime and looks to be a possible favorite in the Juvenile. Trained by Chad Brown and Owned by Coolmore this colt won last out in the Champagne Grade 1. Purchased in the sale for $135k the horse has promise and has been on a few peoples radar for the Derby.

Command Performance son out of Union Rags finished 2nd last out to Jack Christopher in the Champagne. Todd Pletcher has this horse working out great and looks to possibly sit closer to the lead instead of off the pace like last outing.

Corniche a Bob Baffert trained and possible favorite out of Quality Road looks to stay undefeated. Mike Smith looks to get the mount and the horse has the highest speed figures of his company. Baffert and the west coast seems to be a legit pick. However if you're a capper that plans to fade all Baffert contenders by all means go ahead.

Pappacap a colt from Gun Runner looks to stay consistent in his 5th try. Beaten last out by Corniche sitting just off the pace, looks to keep the tactics and try to run with the leaders once again.

Race 10 TVG Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf

Slipstream a More Than Ready colt for Clement, winner of last 2 including a Grade 3. Looks to either be able to come from behind and win or go to the lead.

Albahr a Godolphin owned 2 year old gelding, trained by Charles Appleby that has a positive win record on the career at 4/5. Winner last out at Woodbine Summer Stakes Gr1 and also won the Handicap Longines Irish Champions Weekend Stakes at Salisbury. 80% trainer with 2 year olds. Coming in from a 47 day layoff.

Dubawi Legend another international shipper for the grass race. Hugo Palmer trained and owned by Rabbah Bloodstock. This colt is 3-1-1-1 lifetime with its only win in the first career allowance race in Doncaster (GB). After winning it went straight to Graded Stakes races finishing 3rd and 2nd. Horse gets added distance which could help and one to watch.

Detroit City is an Also Eligible longshot. Jose Lezcano will get the mount and usually hits with big prices on the Turf.

Grafton Street a War Front colt for Mark Casse has ran consistent in 3 starts with a 3-1-1-1 record. Finished 2nd to Albahr in the Summer Stakes and won last out in a 127k maiden as a fresher for the Breeders Cup. Horse has been posting some decent workout numbers and could be a very good price come post time.
