The Horse Racing World Championship is here and we wrap up the racing at Del Mar for the big Saturday Card for Classic Day. It's a loaded Saturday card with several seasoned horses on the Turf and Dirt. The biggest being the Breeders Cup Classic featuring, Hot Rod Charlie, Essential Quality, and Knicks Go.
Race 4 Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint
Gamine winner of her last 5 starts, including a list of Grade 1s. An earner of over $1 million dollars this daughter of Into Mischief looks to add to her accolades for trainer Bob Baffert.
Bella Sofia seems to be the horse that could give Gamine a test but she will be up against it in here. Winner of her last 4 and posting a 111 speed figure the last time out.
Race 5 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint
Kimari comes out of the Madison Grade 1 at Keeneland looking sharp for Wesley Ward. She will possibly have Joel Rosario aboard and looks comfortable pressing for the lead. She will be up against a stablemate in Golden Pal.
Golden Pal winner of the Woodford at Keeneland and son of Uncle Mo looks to best his stable partner in here for Wesley Ward. Should be a good battle up front between the two on who dictates the pace.
Lieutenant Dan has won the last 3 and looks primed to run in a Grade 1. Early running style should help this horse with the running pace.
The Critical Way out of Tizway and winner of the last 3 looks to be a decent long shot play at 15/1. Coming off a 2 month layoff and drawing the outside post doesn't help.
Race 6 Breeders Cup Dirt Mile
Life is Good a lightly raced 3 year old out of Into Mischief is 4/5 lifetime and recently won the Kelso Handicap Gr. 2. Todd Pletcher took over the training duties on Life is Good in August and seems to be getting the horse used to his training techniques.
Silver State a Steve Asmussen trained 4 year old out of Hard Spun, looks to find the winner circle again after getting beat in his last 2 starts. Previously he won 6 straight before getting beat in the Whitney by Knicks Go. He will shorten up a but in here and go just a mile which may help.
Snapper Sinclair a 6 year old out of City Zip looks to possibly wrap up a lengthy career with a dirt mile victory. Trainer Asmussen would be please with the horse hitting the board and running well however.
Race 7 Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf
War Like Goddess a filly from English Channel is 6/7 Lifetime and has a stack of Grade Stakes victories. She has the highest speed figures coming in, but has never raced on the West Coast turf. She does have a 2 month layoff and I feel she will run well with competitors.
Love an international shipper for Aidan O'Brien out of Galileo comes out of a 2nd place running in a Grade 2 at Curragh. The 4 year old filly has been on the bench for 55 days, but has a lifetime record of 14-7-2-3.
Pocket Square 4 year old filly out of Night of Thunder for Chad Brown. She is 9-5-0-1 lifetime and winner of her last 2 starts. Won the Grade 3 Athenia last out. Horse has a 28% trainer; Shipper.
Race 8 Breeders Cup Qatar Sprint
Jackies Warrior a 3 year old for Steve Asmussen that has a lifetime record of 8 wins in 11 starts. Most of his win are graded stakes races. JW has the highest speed rating among others and the early running style favors this race.
Dr. Schivel comes in winning his last 5 starts including the Santa Anita Sprint and the Bing Crosby Gr. 1. Flavien Prat will continue with the mount for Matt Glark and looks to be able to run to the lead or come from the back.
Firenze Fire a 6 year old running with the boys for Kelly Breen. 37 starts and 14 wins for his career. Was beaten last out by Following Sea. The veteran just knows how to find and hit the board. Hopefully he has one good race left in the tank at a decent price.
Race 9 Fan Duel Breeders Cup Mile
Space Blues an international shipper for Charles Appleby and out of Dubawi. The horse is 18 for 10 lifetime and 5 for 3 in 2021.
Mo Forza a 5 year old out of Uncle Mo that is 14-8-3-1 lifetime and is 2-2 in 2021. The horse has won the last 5 with all being Grade 2s.
Masters of the Sea an international shipper from the Charles Appleby barn. A lightly raced 3 year old with 3 career wins and only 1 of those in 2021.
Race 10 Longines Breeders Cup Distaff
Letruska the 5 year old Mare with 5 straight wins for Fausto Gutierrez and St George Stable. The daughter out of Super Savers looks for number 6 int he Distaff. Winner of the Spinster last out as well as the Ogden Phipps. Has been running well against present company.
Malathaat 3 year old daughter from Curlin for Todd Pletcher. Winner of the Alabama and Kentucky Oaks she will come in and try to add to her 3 year old campaign. A career best 107 speed figure in her last outing.
Clairiere another 3 year old out of Curlin for Steve Asmussen and Stonestreet Stables. Has been finishing behind Malathaat in her last few starts, looks to try different tactics in this trip.
Race 11 Longines Breeders Cup Turf
Tarnawa the morning line favorite 5 year old mare comes in with a career high 9 wins but has been missing the winners circle in the last 2 starts. Running in 2 Grade 1s last out tries to get back to glory since winning 5 in a row.
Walton Street a veteran 7 year old Gelding out of Carpe Diem for Charles Appleby and Godolphin. Winner last out in a Graded Stakes race and posted a 107 speed figure. Coming out of a 49 day layoff, looks to be a good competitor in here.
Bolshoi Ballet an international shipper for Aidan O'Brien should draw in with a scratch in this race. One to consider or watch if they were to draw in.
Broome another international shipper for Aidan O'Brien. Lanfranco Dettori will get the mount on this horse and we may see the famous Dettori dismount if he were to win.
Race 12 Breeders Cup Classic
Essential Quality 3 year old grey colt out of Tapit for Brad Cox and Godolphin looks to add to his win total of 8 career wins. Winner of the Travers, Jim Dandy, Belmont, and a 4th in the Kentucky Derby. Has a top dirt speed thats higher than all competitors.
Knicks Go another Brad Cox trained 5 year old out of Paynter looks to continue the dominance in his career. Winner of his last 4 including the Lukas Classic, Whitney, and the Winner of the BC Dirt Mile last year. Has never raced against this company but looks like a seasoned pro.
Tripoli a 4 year old from Kitten Joy and trained by John Sadler is way up against better in this race. Has some graded stakes experience and won the Pacific Class at Del Mar 2 starts ago. Has a very sharp workout last week.
