Albaugh Family Stables LLC and Spendthrift Farm LLC’s Thousand Words broke best and never looked back en route to a score in the $98,000 Shared Belief S. at Del Mar. The two-time graded stakes victor completed 1 1/16 miles on the fast main surface in 1:43.85 beneath Abel Cedillo to earn 50 points on the 2020 Road to the Kentucky Derby challenge series. He currently sits in seventh on the leaderboard with 83 total points amassed.
Thousand Words debuted on October 26 at Santa Anita in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event and came out a half-length winner. He capped his brief juvenile season with a game tally in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2), prior to moving his unbeaten streak to three when annexing the Robert Lewis (G3) in his sophomore bow.
Thousand Words posted a 93 Brisnet Speed figure for his work and has yet to register a number higher than 95 to this point of his career. His one-paced style should translate well when he races at 10 furlongs for the first time at Churchill Downs on Sept. 5, but the 3-year-old has to get faster to perform well with the best in his crop.
