Kentucky Derby by the Numbers

Updated: Sep 24, 2020

0 - The Number of winners of the Kentucky Derby in September. With Covid-19 Pandemic spreading fear into the world the Derby date has been changed for the first time to September opening new history for a first timer to win the Derby in late summer rather than late spring.

1.59.4…minutes. The time Secretariat clocked in 1973 to win—still the fastest on record. Don't even think any horse this year comes close.

3…the number of fillies that have crossed the finish line triumphant—Regret (1915), Genuine Risk (1980), Winning Colors (1988). Would of loved to see Swiss Skydiver or even Gamine attempt the race against the boys.

8…the number of Derby winners produced by the Lexington, Kentucky-based Calumet Farm (titles in: 1941, 1944, 1948, 1949, 1952, 1957, 1958, 1968)—more than any other stable.

13…the number of Triple Crown winners, including Justify in 2018. This year shouldnt count as distances have been shortened and the time frame of the races arent as close.

91-1…the odds of the biggest long-shot winner—Donerail in 1913. Each $2 win ticket paid $184.90—a Derby record.

225,700,000… dollars. The largest total amount of money wagered across all sources on the Kentucky Derby—set in 2018. I feel 2020 may eclipse that but people without a place to bet may not be able to unless they download the TVG app or Twinspires betting apps.

75 percent of all Derby winners have been bred in Kentucky. Tiz the Law looking to break the New York curse, the 17 post curse and the 2020 curse.

#5... Post has recorded 10 wins of past Kentucky Derby winners.

#17... Post has produced 0 winners for the Kentucky Derby....Tiz the Law will change that.
