Max is Back, Maxfield returns at Fair Grounds

Maxfield's Return

The unbeaten 3 year old for Godolphin has been entered in the Tenacious Stakes this weekend at Fair Grounds racetrack. This son of Street Sense has been sideline since his win in the Matt Winn Stakes back in May with a chip in his ankle that was followed by surgery. Connections feel this is a great return spot for this colt.

Maxfield won the Breeders Futurity in 2019 beating Gouverneur Morris, and set himself up for a possible morning line favorite spot in the 2020 Kentucky Derby. COVID-19 and his injury had other plans when the Derby was moved and he would later succumb to injury.

With 6 other competitors entered in the Saturday Tenacious Stakes, Maxfield looks to be a heavy favorite. However with his injury and time away from the track will bettors look toward the Steve Asmussen trained, Sonneman? With a small field it should bode well for Maxfield to get back to his great form he was in before injury. With a win in the Tenacious Stakes it would very likely the connections would then point this colt towards the Pegasus World Cup in January. The first task however is going to be staying healthy and getting back to running like he did in the early summer. Definitely one to watch moving forward in his career and like most I will be hoping he stays healthy to do great things in his racing career.
