Preakness Stakes Preview

The Preakness Stakes is traditionally the second leg of the American Triple Crown of horse racing, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Preakness concludes the three-race series this year. Like the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, it’s a Grade I Thoroughbred stakes races. The Preakness is 9.5 furlongs, or 1 3/16th miles long.

In year's past the Preakness is usually a high anticipated race, where the Kentucky Derby winner is coming into the race, usually a favorite in hopes to win and move on to the last leg of the Triple Crown Series. With Tiz The Law running the tables for most part of the summer winning the Belmont Stakes and the Travers Stakes he was the favorite going into the Derby. Bob Baffert and Authentic showed up and played spoiler winning the 146th Kentucky Derby. Now, Baffert and connections are pointing Authentic to the Preakness for this weekend. As of Sunday he will face off against 12 other competitors, including derby scratch Art Collector and Thousand Words, also new addition Swiss Skydiver is trying to beat the boys in the Grade 1 Stakes race.
